SKM Group - Buffalo Advertising Agency - Creating results through targeted marketing.
While we’re usually the ones helping our clients make headlines, the snowstorm that rocked the region this week turned some SKM Group employees into media celebrities when they took to social media and utilized personal connections to share their experiences dealing with the white stuff.
The picture VP of Integrated Marketing Jeff Schaefer took of his wife, Jenny, shoveling snow in front of their Lancaster home went viral, as CBS News, The Washington Post and Mashable included it in their montage of images chronicling the event. Schaefer was also interviewed by a radio station in Akron, Ohio, as he gave firsthand accounts of being housebound with his family of five while the storm raged on outside.
Bryan LeFauve, COO, was interviewed by the morning show at KDXY-FM in Jonesboro, Ark. He sent them pictures from his neighborhood, also in Lancaster, which included street views of snow piled halfway up mature trees and a police cruiser trapped in a snow bank. The station posted the story on its website and linked to it on its Facebook page as well. The “Today” show ran a picture LeFauve’s wife, Meaghan, sent of their snow-covered house during a broadcast and posted to its website.
With several road closures, including a good portion of the Interstate 90, around Western New York, it was difficult for national media outlets to cover the historic event in real-time. Fortunately, the media savvy marketing professionals at SKM Group were there to let the rest of the world know how our little corner of the globe was faring.
